​I don’t know about you, but I am a late bloomer.
Though, never in a million years, did I think I would be called that. While the world was still my oyster, I decided that by the time I was 40, the hard work would be over, and I would be set for life. Coasting into the “smooth sailing” phase.
You can guess that it didn’t turn out that way.
At the tender age of nineteen, married, I set sail for another continent and began trading my life for a long season of doing and getting. Paying attention to the real cost, finishing my education, and having a family, all went on the back burner as I strove to become someone.
This I thought, was the way to freedom. Sound familiar?
Just as it all seemed to be coming together, and it looked like my star was shooting straight up, the unexpected happened. It erupted into flames. Years of effort, millions of dollars of investment, my company, reputation, relationships, and my very identity were consumed.
I took a blistering journey through the spiritual wilderness, and it saved my life.
What I learned on that journey delivered me to my true self. By the grace of God, I was rescued from a life of falsity, striving, and discontent, in exchange for freedom and joy.
I believe the most tragic thing is to squander your one wonderful, precious life. To end your days without knowing who you really are, or becoming the fullness of who God created you to be.
